👇🏻Here are 5 healthy tips help you to manage your weight and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes in the future.
1. 🌾Eating healthier carbs; choosing more complex carbs which have a high fibre content, for example, whole grains like brown rice, buckwheat and whole oats.
2. 🍎Having enough fruits and vegetables during the day.
Fruits and vegetables are high-fibre foods, so they not only give us minerals and vitamins but also help to manage blood glucose levels. Eating vegetables with the skin as much as possible is a good trick to get enough fibre. Like potatoes, pears, apples… Fruits are also naturally sugary foods, so choosing fruits instead of refined sugar helps to prevent blood sugar from rising fast.
3. 🍬Limiting or cutting down on free sugar.
If you have diabetes, either type 1 or type 2, you need to be careful when having refined sugar to control blood sugar levels. Of course, it doesn’t mean you should never ever eat free sugar, especially on special days you should enjoy; you can just choose the right portion size and eat with the right food choices.
However, if you take insulin or oral anti-diabetics, you need to advise your doctor about medication adjustment on occasional days.
4. 🥓Eating less processed meats
Diabetes conditions affect cardiovascular health very closely. Due to the high sodium content of processed meats, it is considered not the healthiest for cardiovascular health.
Minimising processed meat products like salami and pastrami helps to have a healthier cardiovascular system.
